What to Expect
Prior to surgery
- Once scheduled by your surgeon’s office, you will receive an email or text message with instructions to complete a pre-operative questionnaire.
- Nursing staff will contact you to obtain and review medical history and go over instructions for surgery. The following are instructions you may expect prior to surgery. Please consult with your surgeon or the nursing staff at Syringa if you have any questions about your pre-operative instructions.
- Do not eat or drink anything (including water, gum, candy, nicotine, etc.) after 10pm the day before your surgery.
- Ensure you have a responsible adult to drive you home and stay with you for 24 hours after surgery.
- Wear casual/loose fitting clothing so you will be comfortable when you leave our facility.
- Leave jewelry and other valuables at home for safekeeping.
- Bring your insurance card, photo ID, inhaler, and CPAP machine (if applicable).
- If you develop any cold/flu/fever symptoms, please call and let us know.
- If you have an Advanced Directive, please bring a copy with you to the surgery center.
- If prescribed a scopolamine patch, please apply it the night before your surgery.
Day of Surgery
- Do not eat or drink anything (including water, gum, candy, nicotine, etc.) after 10pm the day before your surgery.
- Please bring photo identification and insurance card(s).
- You will be required to have a responsible adult with you after surgery to assume care and drive you home.
- If you are female between the ages of 10 and 55, please withhold from urinating prior to pre-op as we will require a urine sample.
After surgery
- You will receive an email or text message with a post-operative questionnaire.
- Please report any post-operative problems or complications you are experiencing directly to your surgeon. If you feel it is an emergency, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.
